Parents Association

Parents are vital to the Acorn School community. Your participation and generosity make an important difference not only to your child’s experience, but also to future generations of Acorn students.

Acorn considers every school parent to be a member of the Parent Association and our goal is for 100% of families to participate in Parent Association fundraising and activities. No financial contribution or amount of time spent volunteering is too small. We only ask that you be involved! Please reach out to pa@acornschoolny.com with any questions.

How to Get Involved!

Serve as a class parent

Two class parents represent each classroom, acting as a link between families, teachers, the school director and administrator, and the Parents Association. They coordinate volunteers and supplies for five classroom parties, collect contributions for teacher gifts, and plan class-specific social events. While much of the work can be managed from home via email, some in-person commitments are required, and class parents are encouraged to take a leadership role in community service and school-wide fundraising efforts. The Parents Association hosts a welcome meeting in September for all selected class parents.

Fundraise

Fundraising at Acorn helps bridge the gap between tuition and the full cost of educating our students, supporting professional development, facility upgrades, enrichment activities, and new technology. Families can participate in many ways, from attending events and purchasing items at the fall gift wrap fundraiser or holiday book fair, to bidding at our Spring Auction—the school’s largest annual fundraiser. Additional opportunities include School Spirit Day, the online book fair, bake sales, and year-round partnerships with Amazon Smile. Volunteers play a vital role in planning, promoting, and running these initiatives, whether working behind the scenes, coordinating remotely, or helping in person.

Serve others

Acorn’s Community Outreach program offers families meaningful ways to give back—through one-time events and ongoing service projects that connect our school to the broader community. Parents join together to support initiatives like the Halloween Candy Donation Drive for Operation Gratitude, book collections for Reach Out and Read, volunteer nights and pajama drives for Room to Grow, and more. These activities not only provide valuable assistance to local and national organizations but also model the importance of service for our children. Volunteers help with planning, collecting, sorting, and delivering donations, making each effort a true community collaboration.
